European Defence Agency, 2018. Smart Camps Technical Demonstrator Feasibility StudyPublic and private sectors of EDA member states are requested to assist with this important research project by completing the templates for energy, waste, and water by 13 July 2018.
Between October 2015 and March 2016, EDA installed a Smart Energy Camps Technical Demonstrator (SECTD) in Koulikoro Training Camp (KTC) at the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali). EDA is conducting further research at KTC investigating the potential for installing and monitoring a Smart Camps Technical Demonstrator (SCTD). This research project is focused on developing options for meeting military requirements through a smart and integrated approach to the efficient generation and consumption of energy and water resources, as well as more sustainable waste management in a military camp environment. Outputs will include:
• an investigation in to the most appropriate technical interventions to meet the requirement for the design and implementation of any potential future SCTD;
• recommendations for commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and military-off-the-shelf (MOTS) technology options suitable for direct deployment or with adaptation; and,
• exploitation of research results to develop a smart camps equipment design plan.
